Newbury College is seeking a committed and enthusiastic individual to join our team as a Step Into FE Lecturer and Course Leader, supporting our Level 1 learners at the start of their further education journey.
Step Into FE is a supportive transition programme designed for learners who have been out of education for a period of time, including those with experience of home schooling, or who have Social, Emotional and Mental Health (SEMH) or Special Educational Needs (SEN). The programme focuses on rebuilding confidence, developing essential study skills, and preparing learners for success in further education. Through a nurturing and inclusive approach, Step Into FE provides personalised support, helping students re-engage with learning, develop independence, and progress onto vocational pathways or further study.
This is a rewarding opportunity to deliver engaging, inclusive teaching to learners with a wide range of abilities, including those with additional learning needs, SEND, and SEMH challenges.
You will:
• 🎯 Plan and deliver creative, differentiated lessons that support diverse learner needs
• 🛡️ Create a safe, supportive and structured learning environment that promotes confidence and independence
• 📊 Monitor and track progress, attendance and behaviour, implementing interventions where needed
• 🌱 Provide pastoral support and act as a positive role model for learners
• 🤝 Work collaboratively with Learning Support Assistants, pastoral teams, and external agencies
• 📝 Contribute to curriculum development, including inclusive resources and schemes of work
• 📚 Lead on course organisation, assessment, and compliance with awarding body requirements
We are looking for someone who has:
• A degree (or equivalent) in a relevant subject (or higher than the level you teach)
• A teaching qualification (PGCE/QTS) or willingness to work towards this
• Experience teaching in an educational setting, ideally with Level 1 or low-attaining learners
• Strong understanding of SEND and strategies to support diverse learners
• Awareness of SEMH needs and how to respond positively and effectively
