University Centre Newbury (UCN) is bringing more higher education opportunities to West Berkshire. Funded by Newbury College with key investments from local business and other foundation partners, we provide a solution for the community that sees an expansion of the current higher education provision enabling more opportunities for young talent to remain in the area and study university-level qualifications alongside their chosen career.

We are offering an exciting opportunity for an Engineering specialist with industry and classroom experience to design and develop our new Embedded Electronic Systems Design and Development Engineer Degree apprenticeship. The programme will empower aspiring engineers with the essential skills and knowledge required in the dynamic field of embedded systems.

Fostering development of students’ knowledge and skills throughout their apprenticeship journey, the successful applicant will also collaborate with UCN teams, potential students and employers to promote and grow the programme.

The successful applicant will have:

• A Level 7 qualification in a related field

• 2 years’ teaching experience

• Knowledge and experience of embedded electronic systems and PLCs.

• Knowledge and experience of software:

o C/C++ or Python

o PLC software

o ECAD, KiCAD or Visio

o Multisim

o LabVIEW

It would be desirable if the successful applicant also has:

• A Certificate in Education/PGCE or QTS through other valid qualification pathways or working towards

• Experience delivering and organising designated area programmes

• Experience of working in a university educational setting.

• Significant industry experience in related subject.
